Why We Chose Supabase Row-Level Security Over Middleware Authorization
AUG 2026•6 MIN READ•Hassan Rival
Application-layer authorization checks in API middleware are susceptible to human error during rapid feature development. A forgotten check in a new route handler can accidentally expose multi-tenant customer records.
By enforcing PostgreSQL Row-Level Security (RLS) directly inside the database schema, all read and write queries are evaluated against session context variables at the database engine level. Even if a backend route is misconfigured, data exfiltration is mathematically prevented.
